Despite the pressures of the music business, it looks like a lot more entertainers are taking on the challenge. The Kwaito-house music godfather joins more of his superstar comrades in the quest to further their education. Zakes Bantwini also announced he would be pursuing his studies at Harvard. DJ Cleo also revealed in 2020 that he enrolled at Wits University for a BA Degree in Business Management, topping off his Sound Engineering Degree, which he earned 20 years earlier.

Though this move might seem to have been a spontaneous response to his 21-day challenge with his daughter, we found out that enrolling in the course was well thought out and inspired by how the pandemic has shaped the world. Covid19 has opened up new ways of working. “I need to do project management. The world is evolving at a quick pace. The music industry has changed completely, it’s not what it used to be,” Oskido said. The skills earned in this program can be added across his various enterprises like his property business, his restaurant Daruma By Oskido in Midrand and also at Kalawa Jazmee. Moreover, his record label that hosts some of South Africa’s favourite icons like Zama Khumalo, Professor, Busiswa, Mafikizolo, Trompies, Bongomaffin and Dj Zinhle, to name a few, will also need his new skills. Project Management will also assist him in undertaking many projects that he has planned for the future. DJ Oskido has also gone on the record mentioning his desire to further enhance his studies and get his MBA; “But there are many other distractions like my career in parenting, so I’ll decide when the time comes. The end goal is an MBA or another degree (BA Law)”.

The original “grootman” still has a lot to achieve and might just surprise us a lot more this year. He already closed December off by receiving a silver plaque from YouTube celebrating his channel exceeding 100 000 subscribers. He posted his joy on Instagram, saying, “Slowly, but surely we are getting there. I’m overwhelmed by the love you show me, so grateful. I thank you a MILLION times for making this happen and @Youtube for the platform”. His social media presence is also getting bigger due to his TikTok videos, which often go viral because of his challenges with his daughter and inner circle. So we can definitely keep our eyes open for more.
